While we'll never forget Meghan Markle's understated Givenchy royal wedding gown, we just learned about a sweet detail that is making us reminisce on another iconic look from the day: the mother-of-the-bride's!
The masterminds behind Markle's mother, Doria Ragland's, gorgeous Oscar de la Renta number just revealed how important it was to the future Duchess that her mom wear a design from a U.S. fashion house.
According to Oscar de la Renta creative directors Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, the request came from Duchess herself, who even took the time to call the duo directly and explain her wish.
“She called me directly,” Garcia told Tatler, per Us Weekly. “I had no idea she was able to do that or had my number, and gave me a 15 minute speech about why it was important to her. I assumed it was her own wedding dress but at the end she said, ‘And would you be interested about making this dream come true for my mother?’”
Kim said Ragland was "lovely" to work with throughout the design process, even bringing snacks to every appointment and staying "hands-on." In the end, they created a pistachio-colored coat and dress with white floral embroidery and a matching pillbox hat.
Following Markle's wedding in 2018, her makeup artist Daniel Martin told People about the Duchess's relationship with her mother saying, "Meghan draws a lot of strength from her mother. Doria is classy, chic, and confident, but not unapproachable. She has a softness, but I detected a steely core to her," the source said. "She has come through a hell of a lot."
Is it safe to assume mother-daughter goals have been achieved?
