If you and your to-be are scouring the Internet for honeymoon, mini-moon, engagement-moon, or other-moon ideas, this could be your lucky day. A cruise ship that’s both pique luxury and spoiled with romantic activities has just started sailing from the U.S. for the first time. Hailed the MSC Meraviglia —which fittingly means wonder in Italian—the MSC cruise ship offers chic digs that will make you feel like you’re chartering a private yacht (more on that later), or visiting an exclusive spa, even if the ship can technically hold over 4,000 passengers.
In fact, MSC Meraviglia will offer all the amenities you’d think of when booking a cruise vacation—but with a bit more glamour and panache that is hard to find on most cruise ships. For one, the food: Intimate, candlelit dinners can be had at the numerous dining options, featuring the likes of Michelin-starred chefs Ramón Freixa, and at the perfect after-dinner dessert spot, Jean-Philippe Chocolat & Café. The open-fronted chocolate atelier by world-renowned pastry chef, Jean Philippe Maury, whips up so many tasty treats worth sharing you’ll be glad that you have multiple nights on board to try it all. There’s also an American-style steakhouse, Butcher’s Cut for prime cuts from around the world.
Think about your dining options in advance so you can take advantage of all the different cuisines the ship has to offer. You never have to eat the same thing twice!
The entertainment is another typical cruise ship thing you’ll find on MSC Meraviglia, but hardly done in a typical way. Unlike many ships where options are limited, on this MSC ship, you can choose from six different theatrical performances including not one, but two, Cirque Du Soleil at Sea shows that were created exclusively for the cruise line.
For super discerning couples that value privacy and exclusivity, MSC Meraviglia offers the MSC Yacht Club which is a unique “ship within a ship.” With personal butler service, 24-hour concierge and a private pool deck with a whirlpool, it’s a well-spent splurge especially for honeymooners. The ship also features an authentic Balinese spa–the MSC Aurea Spa, which includes massage and treatment suites, hair and beauty salons, and even Medi-spa services.
Outside the spa, you’ll find a thermal area where guests can experience a sequence of heat, cold, colors and aromas. Each experience is tailored individually. The thermal space is complete with state-of-the-art saunas, steam baths, cold rooms, a relaxation area—including a salt relax room, and aromatic showers.
Based on looks alone, MSC Meraviglia is already a winner. Its two-story Mediterranean-style promenade proves that, featuring an interactive, digital “stained glass” ceiling that will almost make you forget you’re out at sea. But you should eventually get off the ship, and when you do, it could be at one of the many ports of call in the Caribbean, through Northern Europe, along the New England coastline, or even at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve—MSC Cruises’ private Bahamian island only accessible from the MSC Cruises’ ships.
If you’re staying in the MSC Yacht Club, personalized and private shore excursions can be arranged at the breathtaking island, which features two miles of beach access to white-sand beaches exclusively for MSC guests. No matter where you stay, though, there will be chances to snorkel, paddleboard, kayak and memorable night events to be part of, like lighthouse light shows, traditional Junkanoo parades and stargazing along the beach.
