When Princess Diana married King Charles in 1981, the royal wedding garnered a great deal of buzz and earned a place in history as one of the most memorable, influential celebrations of all time. Now, Princess Di’s niece, Lady Amelia Spencer, is following in her aunt's iconic footsteps. According to Hello, the model married Greg Mallet in a mountaintop ceremony in Cape Town, South Africa, on March 21, 2023. The destination was specifically chosen because it's so important to the couple. “It means so much to get married here,” Amelia expresses. “Growing up here together for the last 14 years, all of mine and Greg’s happiest times as a couple are here. It’s even more special now.”
Many of Amelia’s family members attended the event, including her twin sister, Lady Eliza Spencer, and her other siblings, Lady Kitty Spencer and Samuel Aitken. Since the couple has been together for over a decade, Mallet says their special day was something he’s always imagined. “I’ve been dreaming of watching Amelia walk down the aisle for 14 years,” Mallett reveals.
To kick off the celebration, the duo hosted a welcome party at a private seafront residence during sunset, according to Tatler. The publication reported that the gathering took place by the pool, which was decorated with floating orbs. The pair teased the event on Instagram. “Not long now…” they captioned their joint post. In the photo that they uploaded, the bride-to-be is wearing a champagne-colored satin dress with a halter neckline and an open pack, while the health and fitness guru is pictured standing by her side in a dashing suit. Mallett expressed his love for Amelia in the comments section. "You’ll never not make me laugh,” he wrote. “And I'll never stop looking at you in awe.” Lady Eliza also shared her support. “The most beautiful pre-wedding celebration for you,” she said. “I love you with all my heart.”
The couple’s wedding comes nearly three years after they announced their engagement. Mallett popped the question on July 22, 2020, at Clouds Estate in South Africa and shared the news with his Instagram followers a few days later. “So this was the best day of my life,” he gushed. “22nd of July 2020, I asked the love of my life to spend the rest of her life with me and she said YES. Couldn’t be happier and I love you with all my heart.” To announce the exciting news, Mallett uploaded a carousel of couple shots, with his then-fiancée’s diamond ring on full display in each photo.
A few months after the proposal, Mallett opened up to Hello about his decision to make things official with his now-wife. “I’ve always known I wanted to marry Amelia,” he revealed. “As young as I was when we got together, I knew she was the girl of my dreams.” Amelia also agreed with the sentiment. “Everything about Greg makes me feel like the luckiest person in the world,” she shared. During their engagement, the couple marked a countdown to their wedding. “I did a thing for you,” Mallett posted on Instagram. “4 months until I marry the love of my life!” Amelia commented, “Ahhhhhh this is so special! I love you with all my heart angel. I can’t wait for [eternity] with you.”
