When Kate Middleton and Prince William aren’t doing charitable work or carrying out their duties as members of the royal family, they’re known to show off their competitive side. On Saturday, February 25, 2023, the Prince and Princess of Wales will attend the Wales vs. England Six Nations rugby match at the Principality Stadium, the palace revealed on February 23, 2023. Since they’re both rooting for different teams, only one will leave the stadium with bragging rights. William has been a fan of the Welsh Rugby Union since 2016, while Kate supports England as patron of the Rugby Football League and Rugby Football Union.
In 2022, the princess took over the position as patron after Prince Harry handed it over to her. After she took on the new role, Kate joined a training session for some of the rugby players at Twickenham Stadium, according to People. Out on the field, Kate demonstrated her athleticism when a few players hoisted her into the air in order to receive a ball, and she caught it without a problem. After the play, everyone cheered and applauded her.
Last year, England and Wales faced off during a rugby match at Twickenham Stadium. Since England ended up winning the game, Kate left feeling victorious as well. Prince George also joined his parents in the arena, but it’s unclear who he rooted for. Although William is a loyal supporter of Wales during rugby competitions, he often cheers for England during football games. However, when asked whether he'd support England or Wales during the World Cup in November of 2022, he said he'd like to see Wales come out on top. “When I was growing up, Wales didn't get through to the tournaments,” he told Wales Online. “Getting to the World Cup is a big deal, and I'll be supporting Wales through the process."
Kate and William are known to challenge one another to competitions, which may be the secret to keeping the spark alive in their relationship. In October of 2022, the couple put their cocktail-making skills to the test during a trip to Northern Ireland. After stopping by Trademark, a new outdoor street food and retail market in Belfast, they couldn’t help but engage in a little friendly competition. Their task was to make a pink cocktail as quickly as possible. From separate stations, the duo raced to the finish line, pouring and shaking the drinks to determine who was faster. Their official Twitter account posted a video of the battle with the caption, “Who did it better?”
In 2017, the pair put their game faces on while visiting southern Germany; then, they battled it out during a rowing race. Although William and his team ended up winning, it was a close call, and the two looked like they had a blast. Instead of harboring any negative feelings after the regatta, the couple put their rivalry aside and celebrated over beer.
