According to a press release from the designer, the coat has a dark blue velvet collar and cuffs to offset the rest of the sea foam color. The coat is worn over a dress of the same color with a Swarovski pearl and crystal-embellished neckline, chiffon bodice, and scalloped skirt. In order to catch and reflect light, the coat is also subtly embellished with the Swarovski crystals. Plus, get this—she even has a matching silk Markarian face mask because safety comes first.
According to the designer, “The color blue was chosen for the pieces to signify trust, confidence, and stability,” qualities the country could really use right about now.
Founder of Markarian and designer Alexandra O’Neill added the finishing touches to the design by hand in her New York City studio. She said she is “humbled to be a small part of such a historic moment.” O’Neill found Markarian in 2017 to create romantic and whimsical pieces that are designed and manufactured carefully with both quality and sustainability in mind.
Dr. Biden isn’t the only one who is showing up dressed to impress. According to Forbes, both the president-elect Joe Biden and the Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff are wearing Ralph Lauren. Joe will don a classic navy blue Ralph Lauren suit and overcoat as he is sworn in as the 46th President of the United States.
The beautiful, powerful, and history-making Kamala Harris will make a statement as she's sworn in as Madam Vice President wearing designs from Christopher John Rogers and Sergio Hudson, two Black designers. Harris completes the royal purple ensemble with an elegant string of pearls. Harris will not only become the first female Vice-President but also the first Black and first South Asian Vice-President.
