Janell Hickman

Janell M. Hickman-Kirby is a digital communications specialist and copywriter based in Brooklyn, New York. She is an experienced senior women’s beauty and lifestyle editor with a focus on diversity and cultural awareness.

Experience

Janell began her career in fashion when she joined WWD as an intern. She has since held roles at ESSENCE Magazine, Ebony Magazine, and GILT. She was most recently the beauty editor at BET Digital before launching her freelance career as a copywriter and digital communications specialist. Her bylines have appeared in notable publications such as ELLE; O, The Oprah Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Well + Good, The Coveteur, StyleCaster, Allure, SELF, and Teen Vogue.

Janell is a graduate of Hampton University, where she received a B.A. in print journalism.
