Hillary Clinton’s wedding dress shopping experience wasn’t exactly traditional. When tying the knot to Bill Clinton in 1975, the politician sported a bohemian smock dress with bell sleeves and crochet lace. And, she found it at a not-so-glamorous place—Dillard’s.

During an interview for The Drew Barrymore Show, which aired Thursday, September 15, 2022, the former secretary of state confirmed the spot where she said yes to the dress. When host Drew Barrymore asked whether her wedding gown is from the department store, the former lawyer replied, “Yes, it is.”

Chelsea Clinton, Hillary’s daughter who was also present for the interview, told Barrymore to ask the former senator how many dresses she tried on before finding the one. “Only one,” the diplomat revealed. “I found the one I wanted.”

She went on to explain the story behind shopping for her getup. “But, here’s what happened,” she continued. “My husband had asked me to marry him twice, and I said, ‘Not now, no.’ The third time was the charm, and he said, ‘Well, let’s hurry up and do it before you change your mind.’”

Since the couple wanted to expedite their nuptials, the former Secretary of State completely forgot to buy a wedding dress. So, once her wedding weekend rolled around, a visit to Dillard’s was the only option.

On Valentine’s Day in 2020, Hillary posted a throwback photo with Bill on her wedding day, which showcased the dress she wore for the occasion. “Happy Valentine’s Day,” she wrote on Instagram

Hillary and Clinton first met in 1971 when they were both attending law school at Yale University. After four years of dating, they said “I do” in the living room of their Arkansas home during an intimate ceremony with just 15 guests. Throughout their 47-year relationship, they have supported one another during their political endeavors. They are parents to one daughter, Chelsea, and they share three grandchildren.
