Real talk, what teenage girl didn't believe they were the future Mrs. Justin Bieber in 2009? And, who would have thought that model Hailey Baldwin would claim the lucky title?
- Hailey Baldwin met Justin Bieber for the first time in 2009 and calling the introduction awkward is most definitely an understatement.
- After they outgrew their young teenage years, and Justin subsequently said goodbye to his signature flow, the pair became "good friends"—so much so that they even shared a New Year's kiss.
- Justin proposed to Hailey in July 2018 after an intense two-year break-up in the Bahamas and they wed in a New York City courthouse just two months later.
- The Biebers hosted a second wedding in September 2019, where Hailey wore three custom bridal looks.
2009: An Awkward Teenage Introduction—Part 1
So there is a slim chance that Hailey Baldwin wasn't exactly a Belieber in 2009 since she didn't even crack a smile when she met Justin Bieber for the first time. In a resurfaced (and anticlimactic) video, Hailey's dad Stephen Baldwin is seen introducing his daughter to the pop star. Who knew that in less than ten years Justin would literally make her one less lonely girl?
2011: An Awkward Teenage Introduction—Part 2
A few years after meeting Justin for the first time, Hailey ran into him again at his documentary premiere, Never Say Never. While the pair smiled together for the cameras, romance was most definitely not in the air since Justin was dating former Disney star Selena Gomez at the time.
January 3, 2016: That New Year's Kiss
After Justin's relationship with Gomez ended, rumors started to swirl around his budding relationship with Hailey. At the end of 2015, they went on vacation together and documented their flirty banter on Instagram. But it wasn't until Justin posted a photo of him kissing Hailey that romance rumors were confirmed. We know who they kissed at midnight!
February 11, 2016: Justin Predicts Their Marriage
Although two years before they would actually tie the knot, Justin predicted a future marriage to Hailey in an interview with GQ. "What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m gonna marry, right?" he shared. "If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it’s always gonna be damaged. It’s really hard to fix wounds like that. It’s so hard...I just don’t want to hurt her.”
May 27, 2018: Went From Reunited...
Somewhere between 2016 and 2018, Hailey and Justin went separate ways (and Justin infamously got back together with Gomez). But, they reignited their former flame in the middle of 2018. Hailey even acknowledged their time apart to The Times saying, "We went through a long period of time when we weren’t friends. We didn’t speak for quite some time, and there was a lot of weirdness that went on. We’ve moved past that."
July 7, 2018: ...To Engaged, Real Quick
During an intimate trip to the Bahamas, Justin proposed to Hailey in a moment she later called "very special." A few days following the milestone, Justin shared the news with a very very very long Instagram caption. "Was gonna wait a while to say anything but word travels fast, listen plain and simple Hailey I am soooo in love with everything about you! So committed to spending my life getting to know every single part of you loving you patiently and kindly," he wrote. He continues with a lot more kind words for his fiancée but if you want to cry about the fact that we all lost our chance to become Mrs. Bieber, just read the full post.
September 13, 2018: A Courthouse Wedding
Four months after reuniting and two months after getting engaged, the pair were spotted at a New York City marriage bureau. As with any celebrity couple doing just about anything, speculation immediately surrounded the scenario.
October 16, 2018: A Confirmed Marriage
Despite previous claims that the couple did not get married at the courthouse, Justin confirmed the nuptials news to fan. The newlyweds were spotted grabbing breakfast together at Joan's on Third in Studio City in Los Angeles, when a fan approached them asking for a little bit of clarification on their relationship status. "I said to them, 'I don’t want to say congratulations, but are you married?'", the source told the Daily Mail. "Justin said, 'Yes, we are married.' He said he has a lot of baggage and called Hailey 'an angel' for sticking by his side, but she just rolled her eyes."
November 2, 2018: Here Comes The Ink
If you're a celebrity couple and you don't have matching tattoos, are you really a celebrity couple? Hailey and Justin cemented their status as A-listers when celebrity tattoo artist Bang Bang tatted them up. While he didn't give too many details, he did reveal that Justin chose an interesting place to house the ink: his face.
November 16, 2018: It's @HaileyBieber Now
Despite getting married two months earlier, the model randomly made the marriage Instagram official by changing her name. She updated her Instagram bio to read “Hailey Rhode Bieber," and changed her handle to @haileybieber. Hailey later opened up to Bustle on the matter, saying, "I'm very proud of my family name. I come from a great family with a history in this industry. I remember when I was going to change it, I asked my dad if he was going to be upset and he was like, 'No! I don't care. We love you. All good, everyone still knows you're a Baldwin.' It's true!"
December 23, 2018: "Meet Our Dogson"

March 21, 2019: Establishing New Roots
The couple casually dropped $8.5 million on a Beverly Hills mansion, despite already owning property in Canada. Their newlywed estate features a wet bar, wine cellar, home theater, and an entertainment space featuring a banana-leaf wallpaper inspired by the Beverly Hills Hotel. Oh, and how could we forget the pool and a cabana with an outdoor fire pit?
April 1, 2019: April Fools!
April Fools Day 2019 will forever go down in history for one simple reason: Justin and Hailey announced a fake pregnancy. It all started when Justin shared a picture of an ultrasound to Instagram followed by a photo of Hailey presumably at the doctor's office. A few hours and several fan freak-outs later, Justin revealed it was all a prank.
Well, Justin, we weren't exactly laughing (more like freaking tf out), but what's a marriage without some humor, right?
April 8, 2019: A Love Poem
While many of us like to believe Justin was speaking directly to us when he sang "Your world is my world, and my fight is your fight," there's no confusion when it came to who his most recent romantic ode was addressed to. The singer captioned a sultry photo of his wife with a love poem written by Bieber himself. "Sunlight falls into the Abyss, just like I fall into your lips," need we say more?
April 22, 2019: Introducing Bean and Bubba
All couples have nicknames for eachother—even celebrities! An Instagram post revealed that Hailey and Justin actually call each other bean and bubba behind closed doors (and on social media now, too). Weird? Cute? Romantic? Whatever works, honestly.

October 7, 2019: Till Death Do Them Part
A week following their nuptials, Mrs. Bieber shared a photo of her wedding dress: a custom off-the-shoulder lace and pearl embellished gown by Virgil Abloh and Off-White. She paired the romantic dress with a dramatic lace-trimmed veil emblazoned with "Till Death Do Us Part" at the end of the train. The bride underwent two more outfit changes throughout the night, wearing a halter neck gown by Ralph & Russo for the reception and a Vera Wang slip dress for the after-party.
