Congratulations are in order for Rahul Mandal, the 2018 winner of The Great British Baking Show, who is officially a married man. On December 4, 2022, the baker took to Instagram to post a heartfelt video that explained he was getting married in Kolkata, India, on December 5, 2022. “I have an announcement to make,” he begins his post. “I’m getting married tomorrow. We both are very excited and a little nervous. I know you all will have a lot of questions. And me and my wife will answer them all. If you want to know anything about her, we will also be very happy to answer it, too.”

The engineering researcher doesn't reveal his wife’s name in the happy announcement, but he says he intends on posting a lot of photos and videos from their nuptials in the coming days.

In his post, the champion of the hit reality baking show also expresses his gratitude to his followers. “Over the past few years, my @instagram family always been a huge support for myself,” he writes. “You all make me grow in confidence and be myself. In Bengali culture, we love to invite all our family and friends in our wedding. So, I would love you all to be emotionally (and also may be virtually) be on our side on the special day of our wedding, it means a lot."

Mandal concludes his caption with a highly anticipated detail: the dessert he plans on serving on his big day. “And before you ask, we are not having any #weddingcake, as everyone is far too nervous to do a cake for me,” he jokes.

Fellow stars of The Great British Baking Show congratulated the former winner in the comments section. "CONGRATULATIONS, Rahul!!!” writes Giuseppe Dell'Anno, another champion of the reality television series. “I’m over the moon for you! Enjoy this exceptional time and savour it all with your friends and family! ❤️"

Although Mandal hasn’t revealed any photos from his special day just yet, one of his guests, TikTok chef Sam Way, posted some behind-the-scenes content from the wedding to his Instagram Story. One of the photos shows the couple at the Mehndi ceremony, featuring the bride’s detailed henna designs. Way also shared a video from the pre-wedding Indian celebration, which shows the bride's hands and arms covered in henna artwork, while Mandal throws up bunny ears behind her head.

In November of 2022, The Great British Baking Show judge Prue Leith told People that Mandal was one of the most memorable contestants. “I think as long as I live, I'll never forget Rahul," she said. The reason? “He is really, really clever, and yet, he's like a shy little boy most of the time,” Leith explained to the outlet. “He gabbles away and can't stop talking because he's nervous.” The judge also commented on Mandal’s noteworthy baking skills, which contributed to his triumph on the show. “He continued to astonish us the whole way through with more and more exotic and crazy ideas and very good showstoppers,” she mentioned.

After becoming the champion of the ninth series of the beloved baking show, Mandal went on to win the fourth season of The Great British Baking Show: Holidays on Netflix.
