Whether you’re planning a boho-chic wedding or a glamorous reception, choosing a geode cake allows you to pull off an out-of-the-box look. A geode cake is a cake designed to look like a geode or a crystallized rock structure. Geode cakes are typically crafted with rock candy and can be made to accommodate any size and color preferences.
"The best part about rock candy is that it comes in almost every color—even clear," says Katie Frederick, owner of Maeflour Cakes. "Geode cakes can come in complementary colors for any wedding or event and can be a showstopper on any dessert table."
Geode cakes can be made with either buttercream or fondant, depending on the cake artist, as they utilize intricate artistry to pull off the unique look. “Cake artists will utilize edible sugar rock candy to mimic the look of the gorgeous caverns and will sometimes add edible paint or glitter to achieve the sheen,” says Frederick.

Geode cakes can also be dressed up with edible metallic gold or silver or include marbling or hand-painted details to bring in the colors of the geode. "As they are a centerpiece of their own, they don’t necessarily need added florals or cake toppers and can be a feature all by themselves," Frederick adds.
