1945: Shirley Temple and John Agar
Actors John Agar and Shirley Temple tied the knot in 1945 against her mother's wishes, as Temple was only 17 at the time. The two met through a friend, who arranged for Agar to escort Temple to a Hollywood party. The former child star wore a gorgeous satin wedding dress when she married Agar in her family's home, although the two eventually split in 1949.
1946: Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Smith
Former President Jimmy Carter married Rosalynn Smith just days after graduating from the United States Naval Academy, in Annapolis, Maryland in 1946. The two are still married to this day and share four children together: Jack, Chip, Jeff and Amy.
1947: Queen Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on November 20, 2017. The two met nearly a century ago, when Elizabeth, who was only 13 at the time, visited the Royal Navy College (where Philip was studying) with her family. Phillip eventually proposed after a monthlong vacation at Balmoral with her family, but her father insisted that the engagement be kept secret until her 21st birthday. The two tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in London as Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, where Elizabeth wore a duchesse-satin long-sleeved wedding gown with floral embroidery and crystal and 10,000 pearl appliqués.
1948: Dick Van Dyke and Margie Willett
Actor Dick Van Dyke married Margie Willet just one month after the two started dating in 1948. The two were married for 36 years and had four children together, but eventually divorced in 1984.
1949: Rita Hayworth and Prince Aly Khan
Prince Aly Khan, the son of the Aga Khan, married Hollywood starlet Rita Hayworth on May 27, 1949 at Khan's Riviera Chateau de L'Horizon. The two had one daughter together, Yasmin, but divorced four years later in 1953.
1950: Elizabeth Taylor and Conrad Hilton
Elizabeth Taylor's first of eight weddings was to Conrad Hilton on May 13, 1950. Taylor, who was only 18 at the time, wore a Helen Rose gown, which sold at a London auction for $187,931 in 2013. The two split a year later.
1951: Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner
Frank Sinatra and Ava Garnder tied the knot in 1951, but split six years later in 1957. This was Gardner's third marriage and Sinatra's second.
1952: Ronald Reagan and Nancy Davis
Actor and future President Ronald Reagan married his second wife, actress Nancy Davis, on May 4, 1952, at the Little Brown Church in the Valley in Los Angeles. The two remained married for the rest of their lives, working through his two-term presidency together and sharing two children, Ron and Patti.
1953: John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
Jacqueline Onassis and former President John F. Kennedy were married on September 12, 1953 in St. Mary’s Church in Newport, Rhode Island in what might have been the most iconic wedding of the century. The former first lady stunned in an Ann Lowe gown for the big day, which even received a blessing from the pope. The couple remained married until Kennedy's assassination in 1963.
1954: Marlyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio
The baseball superstar and the iconic actress tied the knot on January 14, 1954. The two were married at San Francisco City Hall, where they were bombarded by reporters and fans after Monroe accidentally revealed her wedding details to a colleague. The two split in October 1954, only 274 days after the wedding.
1955: Gregory Peck and Veronique Passani
Actor Gregory Peck and his wife, arts patron and journalist Veronique Passani, wed on New Year's Day in 1956, the day after his divorce from his first marriage was finalized. The two had two children together and remained married until Peck's death in 2003.
1956: Prince Rainier of Monaco and Grace Kelly
American actress Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III of Monaco married in an elaborate two-day wedding in April aboard the SS Constitution on the French Riviera. Kelly's dress, which was designed by MGM costume designer Helen Rose, remains a dress design inspiration to this day. The royal couple stayed married until Kelly's death in 1982.
1957: Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Todd
Elizabeth Taylor's third marriage was to film producer Michael Todd, which took place in Mexico in 1957. The two had a daughter together shortly after, but Todd died just one year later in a plane crash.
1958: Robert Redford and Lola Van Wagenen
All The President's Men actor Robert Redford married environmental activist Lola Van Wagenen on September 12, 1958, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two later split in 1985.
1959: Elizabeth Taylor and Eddie Fisher
A year after the death of her third husband, Michael Todd, Elizabeth Taylor met actor Eddie Fisher. At the time, he was married to Taylor's friend Debbie Reynolds, but left her to be with Taylor. The two divorced in 1964.
1960: Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin
Actress Sandra Dee and singer Bobby Darin ("Mack the Knife") married on December 1, 1960 in Camden, New Jersey. The two met while filming the rom-com Come September, in which they both co-starred. The couple divorced in 1967.
1961: Ginger Rogers and William Marshall
The musical movie star married director and producer William Marshall in 1961. It was the fifth and final marriage for the starlet, who later divorced Marshall 10 years later in 1971, following the collapse of their joint film production company.
1962: John Lennon and Cynthia Powell
Beatles legend John Lennon married his former classmate, Cynthia Powell, in 1962, but only remained married for four years. Powell filed for divorce in 1966 when Lennon left her for his second wife, Yoko Ono.
1963: Barbra Streisand and Elliott Gould
Elliott Gould and Barbara Streisand met when she auditioned for a musical he was starring in. The two married in 1963 and had one son together, but eventually split in 1971.

Singer-songwriters Stevie Wonder and Syreeta Wright married in September 1970. The two wrote a handful of songs together before their divorce 18 months later in 1972.
1971: Mick Jagger and Bianca Perez Morena de Macias
Rolling Stone lead singer Mick Jagger married Bianca Pérez-Mora Macias in 1971 at the Chapel of St. Anne in Saint-Tropez, southern France, where Bianca donned her iconic bridal suit. The rock couple later divorced in 1978.
1972: James Taylor and Carly Simon
Carly Simon married fellow singer-songwriter James Taylor on November 3, 1972 and had two children together. The two stayed together for over 10 years until their divorce in 1983.
1973: Farrah Fawcett and Lee Majors
Actress and It-girl Farrah Fawcett married Lee Majors at the Hotel Bel-Air on July 28, 1973 in Los Angeles, California. The two remained married until their divorce in 1982.

1975: Greg Allman and Cher
Pop icon Cher and Allman Brothers Band musician Gregg Allman's relationship was fast and furious. The two met in early 1975, shortly after Cher's split from former husband Sonny Bono, and married later that year on June 30. We hate to say it, but this one was a biggie. Donald Trump married his first model wife, Ivana Zelníčková, in an over-the-top ceremony on April 7, 1977. The New York socialites had three children you might recognize: Ivanka, Eric, and Donald Jr. The two split in 1991.
1978: Meryl Streep and Don Gummer
Meryl Streep and husband Don Gummer have been going strong since their wedding in September 1978. The two have four children together, and continue to inspire us all with their commitment.
1979: Rod Stewart & Alana Hamilton
Actress and model Alana Hamilton married British rockstar Rod Stewart on April 6, 1979 at the L'Eermitage Restaurant in Beverly Hills, California. The two had two children together, but divorced in 1984.
1980: Karen Carpenter and Thomas Burris
Karen Carpenter of The Carpenters and real estate developer Thomas Burris wed at the Beverly Hills Hotel in August of 1980. The bride performed a new song, "Because We Are in Love," at the wedding that was later released in 1981. However, the marriage didn't last long and the couple divorced in 1982.
1981: Lady Diana Spencer and Prince Charles
Prince Charles and Lady Diana's televised wedding was the definition of iconic. The royal wedding took place on July 29, at Saint Paul's Cathedral in London. Diana's stunning gown was made of ivory silk taffeta and antique lace that once belonged to Queen Mary, and was hand-embroidered with mother-of-pearl sequins and 10,000 pearls. Despite the flawless nuptials, the two split in 1996, just a year before her tragic death.

Black Sabbath musician Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon Arden were married on July 4, 1982 and had three children—and a reality show!—together. The two recently renewed their wedding vows for their 35th anniversary.
1983: Carrie Fisher and Paul Simon
Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher and singer Paul Simon tied the knot in August 1983, but divorced a year later due to issues with drug and alcohol abuse. Though they never remarried, the two dated on and off before Fisher's second marriage to Bryan Lourd.
1984: Janet Jackson and James DeBarge
Janet Jackson and R&B singer James DeBarge eloped in 1984, but the two annulled their marriage one year later in 1985. This was the first of three marriages for Jackson.
1985: Madonna and Sean Penn
The pop icon and actor Sean Penn tied the knot on August 16, 1985, Madonna's birthday. The singer filed for divorce in 1989, and it was said Penn's angry outbursts were the cause of their split.
1986: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver
The Terminator actor and journalist Maria Shriver first met at a charity tennis tournament being held at her mother's home in 1977, and tied the knot nine years later on April 26, 1986, in Hyannis, Massachusetts. The two have four children together, but divorced just last year.
1987: Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet
Singer and musician Lenny Kravitz eloped with actress Lisa Bonet in Las Vegas in 1987, on Bonet’s 20th birthday. The two divorced in 1993, but share a daughter together named Zoë (you may have heard of her). Bonnet recently revealed that she is now married to her longtime love, Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa.
1988: Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson
The Forrest Gump star and his wife's marriage has withstood the test of time—the two will celebrate their 30th anniversary in April. Hanks and Wilson (we wonder if her last name is a coincidence...) tied the knot on April 30, 1988.
1989: David Hasselhoff and Pamela Bach
Actor David Hasselhoff married his second wife, Pamela Bach, in December 1989 after meeting on the set of a Knight Rider episode. The couple had two daughters together, but filed for divorce in 2006 citing "irreconcilable differences."
1990: Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise
Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise first met in November 1989, while filming Days of Thunder. The two married one year later on Christmas Eve 1990 in Telluride, Colorado. The two split in 2011, amongst rumors that the basketball player had been unfaithful. However, the two sited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their split. Longoria has since married José Antonio Bastón and is now pregnant with her first child.
2008: Beyoncé and Jay-Z
Modern music legends Beyoncé and Jay-Z tied the knot on April 4, 2008 inside Jay’s New York City penthouse. The two kept their lavish wedding relatively small, inviting only 40 guests to the big day. The couple now share three children together, Blue Ivy, 6, and twins Rumi and Sir, 1.
2009: Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady
