Actors John Agar and Shirley Temple tied the knot in 1945 against her mother's wishes, as Temple was only 17 at the time. The two met through a friend, who arranged for Agar to escort Temple to a Hollywood party. The former child star wore a gorgeous satin wedding dress when she married Agar in her family's home, although the two eventually split in 1949.

1946: Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Smith

Former President Jimmy Carter married Rosalynn Smith just days after graduating from the United States Naval Academy, in Annapolis, Maryland in 1946. The two are still married to this day and share four children together: Jack, Chip, Jeff and Amy.

1947: Queen Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on November 20, 2017. The two met nearly a century ago, when Elizabeth, who was only 13 at the time, visited the Royal Navy College (where Philip was studying) with her family. Phillip eventually proposed after a monthlong vacation at Balmoral with her family, but her father insisted that the engagement be kept secret until her 21st birthday. The two tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in London as Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, where Elizabeth wore a duchesse-satin long-sleeved wedding gown with floral embroidery and crystal and 10,000 pearl appliqués.

1948: Dick Van Dyke and Margie Willett

Actor Dick Van Dyke married Margie Willet just one month after the two started dating in 1948. The two were married for 36 years and had four children together, but eventually divorced in 1984.

Prince Aly Khan, the son of the Aga Khan, married Hollywood starlet Rita Hayworth on May 27, 1949 at Khan's Riviera Chateau de L'Horizon. The two had one daughter together, Yasmin, but divorced four years later in 1953.

Elizabeth Taylor's first of eight weddings was to Conrad Hilton on May 13, 1950. Taylor, who was only 18 at the time, wore a Helen Rose gown, which sold at a London auction for $187,931 in 2013. The two split a year later.

Frank Sinatra and Ava Garnder tied the knot in 1951, but split six years later in 1957. This was Gardner's third marriage and Sinatra's second.

Jacqueline Onassis and former President John F. Kennedy were married on September 12, 1953 in St. Mary’s Church in Newport, Rhode Island in what might have been the most iconic wedding of the century. The former first lady stunned in an Ann Lowe gown for the big day, which even received a blessing from the pope. The couple remained married until Kennedy's assassination in 1963.

The baseball superstar and the iconic actress tied the knot on January 14, 1954. The two were married at San Francisco City Hall, where they were bombarded by reporters and fans after Monroe accidentally revealed her wedding details to a colleague.
