Modern brides, we have a wedding decor trend for you! And it's actually an easy one to implement, whether you're printing stationery or designing your wedding cake. Basically, instead of picking out a standard square-shaped escort card or piece of paper, think of a different shape—one with more sides, to be exact. That's right, we're seeing a new trend in wedding decor with six or eight sides. (That's a hexagon or octagon, if you remember from geometry class.)

And lucky for you, you can use these geometric shapes in seriously any element of your day-of decor. We're especially obsessed with the table setting above as it's both trendy and classic at the same time. So how exactly do you accomplish all that?! For starters, this place setting features a white charger plate, an octagon salad plate (that's eight sides!), and a clear acrylic menu that's oh-so-cool. The black-and-white color palette keeps the look cohesive and classic, while that octagon plate—obvi the statement piece in the display— and acrylic menu make the overall vibe feel geometric, modern, and cool. But, of course, you don't have to stick to this color scheme or single decor element either. Below, you'll find hexagon and octagon ideas in a variety of colors—think neon green, charcoal, and bright blue. And in a variety of forms and materials as well, from mirrored tiles to cookies and more.

So go ahead and keep reading to see why we're so obsessed with these unexpected shapes. We think you'll soon be on board with this geometric trend as much as we are.

These little hexagons are subtle but instrumental in this cake's design. We love this muted color, especially when paired with a simple-but-impactful look. Btw, this sleek, monochromatic design makes the trendy hexagon the star of the show—and that's why it works.

Escort Card Display

As we often see, this statement display incorporates several of the top trends of the moment (neon signage, greenery, hexagon shapes!). But most notably, these hexagon-shaped escort cards stand out against a white backdrop thanks to their dark hue. We suggest copying this modern look with the same black-on-white idea—and with tropical greenery and all, if you so please!

Forget your average "Mr. and Mrs." sign, and adorn the back of your seats with hexagon-shaped acrylics personalized with your names, or even "bride" and "groom." They make for one pretty photo op, don't ya think?!

Turn this shape on its side for yet another unexpected look. These escort cards, which as displayed on a mirrored backdrop, are (yet again) proof that this geometric look goes hand-in-hand with a black, white, and gold palette.

We're obsessed with these marbled-blue toppers, which are lined in gold. They perfectly match this wedding's modern, fun aesthetic—plus, did you notice that the bottom of the cake is in fact a hexagon shape? Mind blown!
