Not every bride is a Meghan Markle kind of bride—meaning, not every bride wants a cathedral-length train and endless yards of tulle to flood the aisles of a stately venue. While everyone will surely be smitten with whatever princess-worthy wedding dress Meghan Markle will wear come May 19, we're guessing not everyone will necessarily want to wear that sure-to-be-fabulous frock on their own wedding day. And that's a-okay! Because, for modern brides who desire a gown that's wholly them, we're here to introduce your new queen: designer Nicole Miller.
Known for her celebrity-beloved bespoke designs (she counts Beyoncé and Angelina Jolie among her clientele) and modern-minimalist wedding dresses, Nicole Miller has recently launched her biggest bridal collection yet and is putting her sophisticated stamp on the industry. "Bridal is my chance to put aside everything else happening in my world with the seasonal, ready-to-wear collections and get a little lost in creativity and fantasy," Nicole Miller exclusively told Brides. "Surprisingly, there are fewer rules and restrictions with bridal so it really does become a chance to bring almost anything to life."
Full of graceful silhouettes and a modern femininity, the designer's new 18-piece collection, Nicole Miller Bridal, is basically the dream closet of the cool-girl bride who prefers simple ceremonies to royal weddings. "I often hear that there is an effortlessness to them that makes them perfect for a beach wedding or an out-of-doors ceremony," Miller said of her frocks. "They’ve also been popular in more traditional settings as well, so it’s likely the ease of the designs that makes them perfect for a woman who’s less fussy and more confident in herself."
With prices that range from an enticing $950 to $1900, these delightful dresses all manage to enhance a bride's beauty without overpowering, thanks to their ultra-flattering shapes and French-girl chic details like lace panels and clean lines. "The Dakota gown is a personal favorite," notes Miller. "It’s elegant, timeless and flatters so many different body types." She adds, "For something a little different I also love the Regina gown with the V-wire plunge. It’s very modern and polished."
But whether you chose the Dakota or the Regina (or Sophia or Juliet...), the gowns are fit to reflect your signature style and flatter whatever accessories, hairstyle, and beauty look you choose. "Nothing in my capsule is so elaborate that you need to plan anything else around it, which I think is very liberating," Miller muses. "I’d hate for one of our brides to be making any sort of styling choice based on the gown, ahead of what’s right for her. I always want the woman to be front and center and for the gown to be effortless enough that it allows for her to bring her own style."
She urges, "It’s essential to dress entirely for yourself and wear what makes you feel your most beautiful."
