"I don't like trends. Women should choose what works for them, not trends." So said Oscar de la Renta designer Peter Copping backstage at the brand's Spring 2017 bridal show. In keeping with that sentiment, the new Oscar de la Renta collection of wedding dresses kept things classic, and beautifully elegant, with the focus on feminine lace, embroidery, and delicate 3-D florals.
Peter Copping followed up his lovely lace Fall 2016 wedding dresses with a collection of timeless staples including strapless ball gowns, and some standout pieces that couldn't help but set trends, even if they weren't following them.
Silk organza and floral embroidery opened the show in a breathtaking a-line gown, which also featured a subtly sexy plunging v-neck. Strapless was the neckline of favor; with exquisite fabrics and embroidered details making these versions updated takes on a traditional silhouette. Large floral embroideries, backs adorned with bows, guipure lace, and feather details gave these dresses their special bridal moment. A particularly modern column gown was topped off with a lace bolero accented with mink and fox fur.
We wouldn't expect anything less than subtle elegance from Oscar de la Renta's Peter Copping and this wedding dress collection delivered just that.
Oh, and our favorite detail: every guest at the show took home their very own Oscar de la Renta bridal Barbie. Now that's a special gift bag!
