If you’re in the midst of planning a wedding, a Mother’s Day outing might seem like one more thing you need to add to your very busy agenda. But Mom deserves a lovely day spent with her loved ones, so making time for her will mean the most. Besides, she’s probably been a huge help supporting you through all of your wedding planning thus far. But what to wear?
For a dressed up day with Mom—perhaps it’s a ticket to the ballet, brunch at the country club, an elegant afternoon tea, or a little fine dining—you’ll want something that’s elegant but not overly formal. A midi hem is universally flattering (yes, even for petites!) and a sophisticated silhouette whether you choose a style with flutter sleeves and flouncy ruffles, a tiered floral print, all-over lace in a jaunty hue, or a vivid color-block pattern. All feel modern and fresh for spring (which is here, technically).
For more of a laid-back day like a cozy breakfast, breezy afternoon cocktails or dinner at home with the family, a billowing cotton maxi, checkered print or an eyelet mini are decidedly chic, but slightly more casual.
Taking Mom shopping or for a picnic in the park? Go for something flowy or in a lightweight fabric like cotton or linen to stay cool, comfortable, but decidedly stylish.
Whatever you choose, all the above work well as wedding guest attire later on in the season or as a bridal shower or brunch ensemble. This is especially important if you opt to splurge (we’re full of savvy advice).
From off-the-shoulder, halter, and asymmetrical necklines to tie-strap, short and long sleeves to mini, midi, and maxi lengths, we’ve pulled together an assortment of dresses to suit any Mother’s Day activity. In a range of prints, patterns, and hues, you’ll find your perfect dress ahead whether you’re looking for an under-$50 find or are feeling the urge to splurge.
