Even a stately stone facade can be enhanced with a few lustrous touches, like planters filled with roses, copper beech leaves and wired acorns. To define the stairs and path, we lined up rainproof hooded lanterns (bring a few butane torches for speedy illumination), then scattered rose petals around the lights (restricting the flowers to the sides gives a neater, more measured look than covering the whole walkway). On the doors, a pair of starburst mirrors help to bounce light—especially helpful on a gray fall day.
