Elizabeth Kimmell's family roots are seriously southern—so much so that Joshua Snyder didn't just ask her parents for their daughter's hand in marriage; he asked her grandmother, too. But once the formalities were taken care of, all eyes moved north to Newport, Rhode Island, where the power couple—he's a management consultant, she's a fund-raiser—put together a red and navy wedding that celebrated the quaintness and quirks of their favorite Yankee town. "Newport is where we spent our first vacation, and where Josh proposed," says Elizabeth. "We couldn't think of a better spot to start our new life."

A monogrammed note (Elizabeth's given name is Barbara) fancied up the flip-flops basket. Elizabeth bought flip-flops for $1.25 a pair on eBay so female guests could ditch their stilettos before dancing. Elizabeth designed a Rhode Island trivia dictionary and included it with the guests' welcome bags. "Not everyone knows what a quahog is," says the bride. (It's a clam.)

The Newport Yachting Center had a spectacular sunset view. Toward the end of the reception, waiters passed trays of fries with spicy ketchup, and mini ice-cream cones. "I adore junk food, and have been known to eat it for breakfast," says Elizabeth.
