Vegan or not, most folks like knowing that they’re using animal-friendly, cruelty-free beauty products. In fact, cosmetic animal testing is considered so cruel and unnecessary these days that dozens of countries and a few U.S. states have already banned the practice. In 2018, California passed a bill which promises to pull all beauty products that were tested on animals, or include ingredients that have been tested on animals, from shelves across the Golden State starting in 2020. And some of the most iconic beauty brands, like Cover Girl, are making the leap to cruelty-free beauty products in response. The cosmetics giant has completely eliminated animal testing from its supply chain and Coty, its parent company, has also committed to getting at least one more of its brands certified by 2020.
Cruelty-free and vegan beauty is clearly bigger and better than ever, but plenty of highly respected brands and cult classics, like Kat Von D, Tarte, and Fenty Beauty, have been 100 percent cruelty-free since their inception. Of course, it should be noted that cruelty-free and vegan aren’t always the same thing: Cruelty-free beauty products may still contain ingredients from animals (like honey), but the labels go together more often than not.
From skin-care to nails to makeup, we scoured the internet to round up 17 essential cruelty-free and vegan beauty products to use on wedding day, at your bachelorette party, and every pre-wedding bash in between!
