Wedding dresses are inherently romantic, but certain details elicit an extra dose of femininity from bow detailing to frothy floral appliqués to cascading ruffles. The spring 2018 runways ushered in fairytale features like ethereal capes and elegant off-the-shoulder shapes which carried over into the fall 2018 runways where things became more enchanting with cloaks worthy of a princess and striking sleeves to enhance off-shoulder designs.
As for the standout silhouette for wedding gowns? It’s all about the waist either through a fitted bodice with delicate boning or corseted detail. We know, a corset? Not since our grandmother’s, right? But stay with us. Rather than appear dated, the look is refreshingly feminine for the season, boasting an incredibly figure flattering fit you can’t deny looks good on nearly every body shape or size. Many of these waist-cinching styles come with a boudoir-inspired aesthetic that is not only delicate but a little but sexy (oh, la, la!)—a trend that has dominated in fashion in recent seasons. Similarly, corseted waists have taken the fashion set by storm over the past two seasons as designers have put out a range of cinched styles from bustiers to actual lace-up corsets. So, it’s no surprise such a look has had a transformative effect on the bridal world with 2018 wedding dresses focusing in on the waist.
In case you thought the trend is a bit risqué, think again. Yes, there are some super sexy options out there, but the look runs the gamut from structured bodices bedecked with beads or with a long-sleeve lace overlay for more coverage to scantier takes like sheer lingerie-inspired lace detailing that’s for more of a vixen bride, but nevertheless, beyond dreamy.
Designers are delivering a range so that it can appeal to a range of brides-to-be. You can go entirely traditional all the way to youthful and modern as gowns are available in every silhouette from strapless to V-neck to long sleeve on top and with full skirts, body-skimming columns or mermaid trains on bottom.
