Yes, a hometown wedding might be easier to plan, but who hasn't dreamt of getting married abroad, say on a castle in France or a remote beach in the tropics? For years celebrities have been going all-out, throwing destination weddings in the most romantic, far-flung locations around the world.
According to BRIDES 2014 American Wedding Study, 16 percent of Americans have a destination wedding — and that percentage seems even higher for stars, who aren't concerned with cost or travel time (after all, they can always book a private plane to get their friends and family to whatever remote location they choose).
Just this year, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, along with George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin, tied the knot in Italy. (Kimye also celebrated their rehearsal dinner in Paris, France — natch.) Also, Hollywood's other power couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, hosted an unforgettable family affair in Provence, France. And though France and Italy are some of the popular locales for A-list nuptials, a few other famous pairs married in Cabo San Lucas including Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo and Naya Rivera and Ryan Dorsey. But celeb destination weddings aren't a new trend: Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel said "I do" in Italy in 2012, while Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem tied the knot in the Bahamas in 2010.
