Dreaming of a coastal New England wedding? Consider Cape Cod, Massachusetts. This picturesque peninsula boasts beautiful beaches, bays and bluffs, quaint villages, lighthouses (is there a better photo op?), historic sites, and wonderful hotels. No surprise, it’s a popular vacation and wedding destination, particularly in the summertime. Who wouldn’t want to exchange vows with an ocean view?
From a fun-loving fete at Wequassett Resort and Golf Club to an international affair at Chatham Bars Inn, below are seven real weddings that capture classic Cape Cod charm.
The inspiration for Gina and John’s May 2017 wedding? Elegant beach. The bride’s lace-appliqued Ines Di Santo gown and white bouquet encapsulated the theme. And for the venue, the Massachusetts natives chose Wequassett Resort and Golf Club. “We love Wequassett because of its peaceful, quiet and relaxing vibe. It’s so calming and beautiful, and we just felt like it was the perfect place to enjoy our special day,” Gina told Brides.
Tara and Todd wanted a venue that showed off one of their favorite parts of New England. “Cape Cod has always had a special place in my heart. I grew up coming here with my family and the first summer Todd and I met we mostly spent here as well.” To complement the summertime ceremony at Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club, the couple opted for hues of navy, blush, and gold. The groomsmen wore J.Crew Ludlow Suits and the bridesmaids selected their own long blush dresses.
From day one, Cristina and Patrick knew they wanted a classic white wedding to match the Wequassett’s dreamy landscape and decor, and a dance party their guests would always remember. From the flowers and programs to the ballroom decor and cake, everything was white. “We loved the sand and water in the background during our ceremony, and the white theme looked chic in the ballroom during the reception. As for the dance party, that was very much accomplished as well,” she told Brides.
When Jessica and Thomas wed in June 2017, it was nothing short of an international affair. The bride (originally from Scituate, Massachusetts, a coastal town about an hour from Cape Cod) and groom (who hails from Wales, United Kingdom) dreamed of New England nuptials. Chatham Bars Inn had the elegant yet still relaxed atmosphere the couple was looking for. “The majority of our guests traveled from other parts of the country or overseas and had never been to the cape before. It was amazing to have everyone together and to be able to share a part of the world that is really special to us with them,” Jessica told Brides.
Christina grew up going to the cape, and Matt is from a beach town (Old Saybrook, Connecticut), so being near the water was really important to both of them. The pair was drawn to Wequassett’s beautiful views and lovely landscaping. “It was exactly the setting we had pictured,” Christina told Brides. And while an April wedding in New England is a gamble in terms of weather, they lucked out with a beautiful day. “Even if it had rained, we felt fortunate to get married in such a special place.”
When it came time to planning their nuptials, the most important thing for Cate and Travis was that their best friends and immediate family take a vacation with them. Cape Cod was a convenient location for everyone traveling, plus it was a stunning setting. “We loved Ocean Edge because it offered fantastic ocean views in a relaxed resort setting. And beautifully maintained golf course was ideal for creating our garden-themed reception,” Cate told Brides.
Pamm and Joey tied the knot at Wequassett—the first and only venue they visited. “As soon as we looked out the back window, we knew we wanted to get married there. The view of Pleasant Bay is peaceful and picturesque, completely iconic of Cape Cod.” The best part? “Being able to celebrate our marriage in a beautiful setting surrounded by family and friends.”
