"Chris and I wanted a fairly classic wedding, with lots of personal touches," says Leigh, brides.com's managing editor. She wore a Priscilla of Boston gown from Kleinfeld in New York City. Chris sported a black Brooks Brothers suit.
Leigh carried a bouquet of hydrangeas, dahlias, garden roses, ranunculuses, freesia, and cornflowers by Fino Fresh Floral Design.
Bridesmaids wore dresses by Anna Elyse.
Flower girls Mia and Mikayla wore David's Bridal dresses and carried pomanders of spray roses and berzelia berries, while ring bearers Alessandro and Andrew donned suits from Men's Wearhouse.
The 5:30 p.m. ceremony was held at the Old South Church.
At the reception, held at the Boston Public Library, books with personalized nameplates served as both escort cards and favors. "We had fun hunting for volumes to fit each of our guests' interests," says the bride.
Of the venue, Leigh says, "Chris and I are both bookworms, so hosting our wedding at the library was perfect. We loved the history and the breathtaking architecture of the place. We also liked the idea of dining and dancing in a library—two things you're usually not supposed to do there."
Each table featured a "still life" arranged by coordinator Heather Minicucci of Simply Inviting Weddings, which included a plaster bust (a nod to the marble busts on view throughout the library), a stack of books, a Granny Smith apple, and a gold frame displaying the table's name.
Classifications from the Dewey Decimal System (for example, "Folklore") served as table names, and menu cards designed by the bride were inspired by dictionary entries.
During dinner, guests enjoyed short rib bourguignon and roasted Statler chicken from Gourmet Caterers, and listened to toasts.
Chris and Leigh performed their first dance to "Ain't That Love" by Ray Charles.
Later, guests danced to tunes spun by DJ Raffi. The night ended with "Happy Trails" by Van Halen, the groom's favorite band.
