Gabourey Sidibe's Husband Reveals How They Celebrated Their First Wedding Anniversary

Gabourey Sidibe and Brandon Frankel shocked the world in December 2022 after revealing that they’ve been secretly married for over a year. Since the couple kept their relationship status under wraps for quite some time, they never shared the details behind certain milestones and experiences from their first year of marriage. On Wednesday, February 1, 2023, the chief business officer of NoCap decided to fill his followers in on their romantic first wedding anniversary, which took place in March 2022.

To celebrate that special day, Frankel surprised the Oscar-nominated actress with a picnic on the beach. He posted a video of the occasion on Instagram, which shows the Precious star sitting on a woven rug next to a fully decorated table. “Now that the world knows, I’d figured I’d share,” Frankel begins his Instagram caption. “I’m usually horrible with surprises, and I totally got her!” The audio of the video confirms that concealing the date was a success. “Did I surprise you?” Frankel asks his wife in the video. “You surprised me for once,” Sidibe quips. 

Frankel then shows off the setup, which includes a charcuterie board, two place settings featuring rattan placemats and matte black chargers, an assortment of candles, and an arrangement of bright flowers. Even a sign next to the table read, “Happy first anniversary.” After the couple enjoys the cheese spread, Frankel pans the camera to demonstrate the cloudless sky and the scenic view of the ocean. “Look at this picturesque picnic after we trashed it,” he sings in the video. 

The clip also features an authentic conversation between the two of them that perfectly captures their relationship dynamic. “Watch til the end for some laughs,” the entertainment professional recommends in his caption. In the video, Sidibe points out, “That water looks cold.” “You have to wear a wetsuit,” Frankel responds. He then asks, “What is up with this Peloton class?” while pointing the camera to a group of bikes on the sand. “I’m not going to the beach to do a goddamn Peloton class or at home, honestly,” Sidibe laughs. “Quote her,” Frankel says. “Quote me,” Sidibe agrees. To wrap up the caption, Frankel ends with a sweet message. “Can’t believe it’s TWO Years this coming March,” he writes. “Time flies when you’re having fun 😍🥹🥰.”

On December 5, 2022, the actress shared on Live With Kelly and Ryan that she tied the knot with Frankel at the kitchen table in March of 2021, just four months after their engagement. Frankel was in the audience during the reveal, and he confirmed the news with an Instagram post. “SURPRISE,” he exclaimed in the post. “I can finally call her my WIFE publicly! Since @gabby3shabby finally spilled the beans today on Live with Kelly and Ryan- we’ve been MARRIED since March ‘21! Relieved we can finally tell the world.”

As the cover star of our fourth digital issue in 2022 , Sidibe told Brides that after Frankel proposed, she couldn’t decide if she wanted to host a wedding. “The entire time we have been engaged, I've always been like, ‘No, we shouldn't have a wedding,’” she said at the time. “Maybe we'll throw a barbecue, get married in the bathroom, and then we’ll come out and tell everyone we're married.” Sidibe noted that if she did throw a wedding, it wouldn’t be the typical vow swap. “I don’t want anything done the 'traditional' way,” she told Brides. “Our relationship is very much on our terms, and I want it to be fun, like a true party." While speaking with hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest on their show, the actress shared that the couple will eventually have a more formal celebration since her mother-in-law wants a wedding.
