On Dec. 1, actor Elliot Page made headlines when he shared his brave announcement on Instagram. "I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel so lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life," the Juno star wrote on Instagram.
He continued, "I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close to who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive. To all trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse and the threat of violence every day: I see you, I love you and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better."
Undoubtedly his words moved us, as well as fans and celebrities alike. But Page's biggest supporter was the one closest to home: his wife, Emma Portner.
After commenting, "Love you so much elliot" on her husband's Instagram post, she created a post of her own, sending a beautiful message of support to her love.
"I am so proud of @elliotpage," Portner captioned her Instagram post on Dec. 1 "Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much."
The choreographer paired her loving words with a screenshot of Page's heartfelt note, which revealed his new identity.
Portner and Page have been married since 2018 after first going public with their relationship in 2017. The couple is said to have met on social media after Page came across one of Portner's dancing videos. Currently, the couple is working together on the set of Page's Netflix show The Umbrella Academy, where Portner is choreographing a few dancing scenes.
