What to Look for When Buying Wedding Shoes at DSW

Heel Height

“While shopping for wedding shoes at DSW, I would first consider heel height,” says bridal fashion stylist Gabbi Maragos. Considering heel height is important because you want a wedding shoe that you feel comfortable and confident in. On top of that, your shoe should complete your overall bridal look, so if it’s too tall or too short, it might throw the styling off.

In addition to heel height, Maragos says to consider formality. “Keep your dress, the venue, and the time of year in mind,” she suggests. For a formal event, Maragos says a pump or closed-toe heel is best. And, if your wedding is more informal, she says a sandal or wedge fits.

  • Do wedding shoes have to be white?

According to Maragos, wedding shoes do not have to be white. “I am here for a bold shoe and pop of color, especially one that ties in with your color scheme,” she says.

  • What shoes do you wear to a beach wedding?

“Barefoot on the beach is ideal, in my opinion,” says Maragos. “If that’s not an option, I would consider a shoe that is easy to walk in and comfortable—perhaps a slide or mule with a platform or thick heel or a flat sandal.”

  • Can you see shoes under a wedding dress?

This depends on the length and silhouette of the gown, but Maragos says wedding shoes typically aren’t visible at first glance. “That being said, when you walk down the aisle or dance, your shoes will be seen,” she explains.

  • Can you return wedding shoes?

“If they are worn even once, they are likely not eligible to be returned to a retailer,” says Maragos. If that’s the case, she recommends exploring the option of selling them on Poshmark or another resale platform should you plan to only wear them once. “This also means you broke them in, and they could even be slightly more comfortable for the next bride,” Maragos notes.

According to the DSW return policy, shoes must be unworn and in the original packaging with the receipt or shipping invoice to qualify for returns.
