Although we’re partial to any type of wedding, royal weddings definitely take the cake. With show-stopping fashion and exquisite decorations, these highly-anticipated events are always brimming with inspiration and leave a lasting impression on the world. The next royal wedding we’re excited about? Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and Rajwa Al Saif. According to the Royal Hashemite Court, the couple will officially tie the knot on June 1, 2023. This date is meaningful for the couple because the future king of Jordan’s parents, King Abdullah II and Queen Rania, will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary that same month on June 10, Tatler reports.
On Saturday, December 31, 2022, the Royal Hashemite Court confirmed the duo’s latest wedding update. “The Royal Hashemite Court is pleased to announce that the wedding of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Miss Rajwa Khalid Al Saif will take place on June 1, 2023,” the caption says. “The Royal Hashemite Court extends its sincere congratulations to Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah on this occasion and wishes His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bun Abdullah II and Miss Raja Khalid Al Said a lifetime of happiness #Jordan.” The court posted the announcement along with a portrait of the couple, showing Rajwa clad in her bridal whites.
After popping the question to his future wife with a diamond ring, the crown prince shared the engagement news on Instagram on August 18, 2022. "We pray that God grants us His blessings,” Hussein wrote. “Grateful to my dear Jordanian family for their heartfelt support and kind wishes.” According to Tatler, Hussein proposed at Rajwa’s father’s home, while his parents were also present. Queen Rania expressed her excitement on Instagram: “I didn’t think it was possible to hold so much joy in my heart! Congratulations to my eldest Prince Hussein and his beautiful bride-to-be, Rajwa.”
All in all, 2022 was a big year for the Jordanian royal family—Hussein’s sister, Princess Iman, also got engaged. The princess announced her future wedding to Jameel Alexander Thermiotis on July 5, 2022. The royal court released a statement, confirming the engagement. “The Royal Hashemite Court is pleased to announce the engagement of Her Royal Highness Princess Iman bint Abdullah II to Mr. Jameel Alexander Thermiotis, on Tuesday, 5 July 2022," the court wrote. “In the presence of Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah, as well as Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, Prince Hashem bin Abdullah II, and Princess Salma bint Abdullah II, in addition to members of Mr. Thermiotis' family." The court hasn’t announced Iman and Jameel’s wedding date just yet.
Prince Hussein and Princess Iman are the two oldest children of the king and queen’s four children. Although Hussein is the oldest son, when Abdullah II became king, he named his half-brother, Prince Hamzah, as his heir. In 2004, the king removed his half-brother from the line of succession and named Hussein as the next crown prince in 2009, Tatler reports. Although it isn’t certain how Hussein met his future wife, he graduated from Georgetown University in 2016 before attending the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He is now a captain in the Jordanian Armed Forces. Rajwa studied at Syracuse University and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
