Beyoncé and Jay-Z are arguably one of the most talented celebrity couples in Hollywood. The “Love on Top” singer and the “Empire State of Mind” rapper have been dominating the music industry for years, continuously creating hit songs that top the charts. Now, they’re making history with another career milestone. On Tuesday, November 15, 2022, Beyoncé tied Jay-Z as the artist with the most Grammy nominations of all time, with 88 nominations each.

Before yesterday's announcement, the “Run This Town” musician had 83 Grammy nominations, which made him the most Grammy-nominated artist in history. Next up on the list was Sir Paul McCartney with 81, Quincy Jones with 80, and Beyoncé with 79, Variety reports.

After the nominations were announced, the “Halo” singer earned nine more, which included album of the year for Renaissance and record of the year and song of the year for “Break My Soul,” CNN reports. “Seeing Beyoncé with that amount of nominations—it just blows me away,” Recording Academy president Harvey Mason tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a testament to who she is, the talent she has, and the iconic music she’s put out over the years.”

Jay-Z also added five additional nominations to his list, and a few of them were based on the work he produced while collaborating with his wife. He acquired two nominations for his contribution to Renaissance and three for his guest appearance on DJ Khaled’s “God Did,” The Hollywood Reporter notes. “To think about that power couple, holy mackerel,” Mason says to the publication. “I added it up: It’s 176 nominations between the two of them. Can you imagine them sitting at the show together?”

Hitting 88 Grammy nominations wasn’t the only career milestone the pop and R&B singer achieved this week. With her eighth record of the year nomination, Beyoncé beat Frank Sinatra, who scored seven nominations in that category over the course of his career. The artist also broke into a few new categories, such as receiving her first nominations in the best dance/electronic recording and best dance/electronic music album categories.

In the history of the Grammy Awards, Beyoncé is the most-awarded female artist—with 28 wins, CNN reports. If the superstar wins four out of the nine nominations she obtained, she’ll become the most awarded artist of all time, surpassing Georg Solti’s record of 31 wins.

To determine the winners, a final round of voting will take place on December 14, 2022, according to The Independent. The big reveal will happen on February 5, 2023 in Los Angeles during the 2023 Grammy Awards. Regardless of the outcome, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have already set a new record as individuals and as a couple, which is an accomplishment in itself.
