Best Lingerie Pieces to Wear on Your Honeymoon

Brides / Marcus Millan

Lingerie is not just for your wedding night—it’s a must-have for your honeymoon, too. Whether you’re looking for something ultra-sexy or want a more comfortable set (like silky pajamas), lingerie can add a little extra spark to the honeymoon festivities and be a fun way to keep the magic going after your whirlwind of your wedding.

“Honeymoon lingerie should be both romantic and sexy—look for pieces that make you feel confident and desired,” says Chine Leclere, Marketing Manager at Gooseberry Intimates. While it's a great opportunity to play with more daring styles, it's also important to avoid tight over-cinched waistlines, tight straps, and scratchy materials. “No matter what your lingerie preferences, feeling comfortable in your skin is the most important thing,” advises lingerie designer Kathryn Rambo.

We scoured the internet to find the best honeymoon lingerie, looking at everything from bra and underwear sets to pajamas, and carefully considered comfort, style, fit, and material quality to determine the pieces worth investing in.

From a sexy romper to a lacy corset, read on for the best honeymoon lingerie styles.

What to Look For in Honeymoon Lingerie

Comfort

“Honeymoon lingerie should be comfortable, especially if you plan to wear it for extended periods of time,” says Leclere. She recommends looking for designs made out of high-quality fabrics that are soft, breathable, and stretchy, such as silk, satin, or lace. Additionally, loungewear items like robes, silky pajama sets, rompers, or bralettes can be great options to bring on your honeymoon.

Fit

When shopping for lingerie for your honeymoon—or any lingerie for that matter—Leclere says to make sure it fits well, as ill-fitting lingerie can be uncomfortable. “Consider getting professionally measured and try on different styles and brands to find the best fit for you,” she adds.

Style

Lingerie comes in all sorts of styles, including babydoll tops, bra and panty sets, nightgowns and slip, and silky robes. When looking at styles, consider the options that feel most like you and what you would feel confident in.

FAQ
  • What are the different types of wedding lingerie?

“Wedding lingerie is diverse, whether you want something functional or purely fun, you’ll be able to find your perfect style,” says Leclere. As far as the different types are concerned, she says to focus on bras, garters, hosiery, robes, shapewear, and negligee pieces like babydolls, chemises, and teddies.

  • How do I know what bra size I am?

“It’s important to find a bra that fits and supports the breasts properly, especially for someone with a larger bust,” says Rambo. With that in mind, she says a good starting point is to get measured by a professional and, once you have those measurements, you can use them to find the correct bra size using a brand’s sizing chart. “Sizing can vary from brand to brand so it’s always a good idea to try on different styles and silhouettes to see what you feel your best in,” she explains.

If you wish to measure yourself at home, there are a few key areas to focus on to determine bra size, including your band size, bust size, and cup size. “To determine your band size, wrap a measure tape around your ribcage, just below your bust,” says Leclere. While doing this, make sure the tape stays level and snug but isn’t too tight, then round to the nearest whole number to get your band size.

For bust size, Leclere says to wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust and, again, make sure it’s level and not to tight and round to the nearest whole number to get your bust size. To calculate your cup size, subtract your band size from your bust size. “The difference between the two measurements will correspond to a cup size,” says Leclere. “For example, if the difference is 1 inch, you are an A cup, 2 inches, you are a B cup, and so on.”

  • Can I wear lingerie under my wedding dress?

You can absolutely wear lingerie under your wedding dress, but Rambo says you’ll want to take into account the type of support or solution you might require throughout the day with your wedding attire. “Keep in mind you’ll be standing, moving around, and dancing for along day and night, so comfort is key,” she adds.

Rambo notes that some wedding gown styles, like strapless, halter, and low-back work best with a strapless bra, while fitted styles such as a slip or mermaid style require more smoothing and seamless shape wear like body suits. If you want to add some fun linger under your wedding gown, she recommends an A-line or ball gown, as these are “more free-flowing and form-forgiving than other dresses, allowing you more room to move around, which means you’ll have more options in terms of lingerie.”
