The most important thing about a bridal party dress is the color (followed closely by the fit, of course). Cabernet is a beautiful option (especially for fall weddings!) that works with a range of different wedding palettes, If you’ve landed on cabernet for your bridal party dress color, it’s important to look at multiple dress options in various shades to find something that feels cohesive to your overall wedding color scheme

To make the process easier, we did the work for you and searched dozens of cabernet bridal party dresses to find the best ones, and interviewed bridal party stylist Stacy Hamm for her expertise. “The bride is the centerpiece, and you want to make sure the fabric she’s choosing for the [bridal party's] dresses plays well with the fabric of her own dress,” says Hamm.

From trendy slip dresses in a deep wine shade, to a clever convertible dress that gives each person a chance to make their own style, we've found the best dresses that your bridal party will love.

What to Look for in Bridal Party Dresses

Cohesion

Hamm recommends looking at the bridal party dresses next to your wedding dress (or wedding dress fabric) to see how they all look together. If possible, choose dresses with a flexible return policy in case the shades don't work together.

Colors and undertones

It’s also important to consider color options, undertones, and how they differ depending on the fabric finish. According to Hamm, many bridal party dress colors can differ greatly if it has a matte fabric (versus shiny silk or satin).

FAQ
  • What color is cabernet?

“Cabernet is a deep, rich red,” Hamm explains. “The color varies across different designers and fabrications,” she adds, noting how it can sometimes look like a deep ruby color, too.

  • What colors go with cabernet?

“Colors that play well with cabernet are other jewel tones,” Hamm says, adding that navy, deep teal, and rose gold all look beautiful with the color. “Cabernet [bridal party] dresses look sharp with groomsmen dressed in French blue or navy suits. You can also soften it with a cayenne color and a deeper, dusty rose, depending on the venue, florals, and other elements at play.”

  • Who pays for bridal party dresses?

Hamm says, traditionally, the bridal party pays for their dresses. That being said, some brides like to break from tradition and offer to cover a portion of the dresses to help with the cost. And, in some cases, the mother of the bride might also offer to pay for the dresses, too. It's customary for the bride to give the bridal party gifts of jewelry or other accessories to complete their look on the big day.
