In November of 2017, after Platt stepped down from his role as Evan Hansen in the Tony Award-winning broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen, Galvin took on the role as his replacement. From there, the two became close friends, which ultimately turned into a romantic relationship a few years later. Galvin first confirmed that he was dating Platt in May of 2020 when he appeared on an episode of the Little Known Facts with Ilana Levine podcast. The People We Hate at the Wedding star told Kelly Clarkson in June of 2021 how their relationship evolved. “Right before the pandemic, we finally decided to really give it a shot,” he explained. “We kind of skated around it for a long time.”
That same year, Platt discussed to Out magazine that having Galvin as a partner makes him appreciate life more. “[Galvin] has a really unique ability to help me to be present where I am and to make the life that’s happening day to day too wonderful to not want to be on the ground for it,” he said the publication.
