Ever since Becky G and Sebastian Lletget got engaged in December of 2022, the “Shower” singer and soccer player have been savoring this new chapter together. On Wednesday, March 1 at the 2023 Billboard Women in Music Awards in Los Angeles, the musician told People that she isn’t in any rush to walk down the aisle. “I’m in a season of really wanting to just appreciate and enjoy this phase of our relationship," she says. "It took us seven years to get here—beautiful years, challenging years, years of growth for both of us individually and together. And I think I'm so hyper-focused on my career and so is he, and we're so in alignment with that.”
The artist also explained to Entertainment Tonight that she anticipates a busy year for her music, and Lletget’s soccer season is in full swing, so she wants to take her time planning their big day. She also mentioned to the publication that she never expected a proposal, so she’s letting the excitement sink in. "I think, also, I really want to enjoy being engaged because it happened, and I really genuinely didn't know,” she adds. “Everyone was like, 'You knew this was coming!' I was like, 'I swear to God, I had no idea!' So I'm still kind of like in that cloud nine of it all."
Although the couple isn’t very far along in the stages of planning a wedding, they have given their special day some thought. Becky G shared her top three priorities for her nuptials with People. "We said for sure they'll be mariachi,” she reveals. “Whatever we do there has to be mariachi. There has to be good food and good asado because he's Argentinian. I’m Mexican, so for sure that, and of course, our families. I think as we develop those conversations, we'll see where it takes us." The singer also said to Entertainment Tonight that Lletget is a big fan of mariachi even though he started appreciating it later in his life. "We both love mariachi, which is funny because he's Argentinian, and so, he didn't necessarily grow up listening to original Mexican music, like mariachi. But he loves it! He really does. He's an honorary Mexican, for sure."
Becky G noted that the engaged couple hasn't decided on the size of their nuptials just yet. “I don't know, I might just go make an appointment, go to the courthouse, call it a day, throw a party later, or I might just throw a big ass Mexican wedding,” she poses. The artist isn’t sure whether she’d elope, but she’s seen a lot of messaging around it on social media. "I did those Q&As on Instagram the other day, and someone was like, 'So are you wedding planning?’” she recounts. “And I was like, 'Am I the only one that's on the side of the algorithm where it's like, ‘Don't do a big wedding! Elope! Run away and go to a mountain! Don't let anyone see you!' It's just...it's crazy!"
At the award show, Becky G got a taste of what being a bride will feel like since she topped off her sheer black ensemble with a black veil. She told Entertainment Tonight that the bridal-inspired accessory completed her look. "Why not?” she asked. “I mean, honestly, this was a piece, this dress. When I put it on, I was like, 'Wow, this feels great!' Once I gave it my own twist and I Beck-ified, it felt right."
