And after her first full night as the franchise’s leading lady, America is loving their new Bachelorette. She had a very successful night one cocktail party—all of the guys couldn’t stop gushing about her—and she ended up giving her first impression rose to Spencer, one of the newbies in the group that they brought in just for her. She also had a group date (which involved the boys playing water basketball in speedos) and a one-on-one date with Brendan, who we had heard very little from during Clare’s time. The two really hit it off and there were fireworks, both figuratively and literally, at the end of the night.
So she’s pretty much been coined America’s sweetheart after swooping in to save this season. But who really is Tayshia Adams? Well, we’ve done some digging, and here are six things you should know about the leading lady who’s vying for 20 guys’ (and all of America’s) hearts.
She was married.
Adams married her college-sweetheart back in 2016 after 5 years together before splitting in 2017. She revealed in Tuesday’s episode on a one-on-one date with Brendan that her marriage ended because of infidelity on her ex-husband’s end.
She’s the second Black Bachelorette.
And it’s about time. Adams follows in Rachel Lindsay’s footsteps, who was the first Black Bachelorette (and first Black lead in the whole franchise) back in 2017. Adams is also an advocate of the Black Lives Matter Movement. In June, she attended a protest and took to Instagram to share the moment and her experiences as a Black woman.
She was on Colton’s season and basically came in third.
Adams was on Colton’s season and even made it to the fantasy suite with him. This season didn’t have the most conventional ending, with Colton breaking up with both Adams and Hannah Godwin to win over Cassie (the two have since split). It was never explicitly stated that Adams came in third, but Colton was shown breaking up with her before Godwin.
She used to be a phlebotomist before working at an interior design firm.
When Adams first came onto Colton’s season, she was working as a phlebotomist. But according to an interview she did with Vulture in 2019, she had left phlebotomy to pursue interior design at a firm. While it’s unknown if she is still working in interior design, Adams has quickly risen to Instagram fame, which has led to influencing deals. She also co-hosts a podcast called “Click Bait with Bachelor Nation.”
She dated John Paul Jones on Bachelor in Paradise.
Adams was on BIP in 2019, where she met and unexpectedly fell for fan-favorite from Hannah Brown’s season John Paul Jones (also known as JPJ). The two dated for a couple of months but called it quits in October 2019.
She has three siblings—and is very close to her family.
By the looks of it on Instagram, Adams is very close with her three siblings (Desmond Jr., Brice, and Dominique) and parents (Rosario and Desmond)
