Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is a two-year-old! We still can't believe it’s been two years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle officially became parents—and that they already have another little one on the way!
In honor of their son’s second birthday, Harry and Meghan are asking the public to donate to help provide COVID-19 vaccines to those in developing countries. “We have been deeply touched over the past two years to feel the warmth and support for our family in honor of Archie’s birthday,” Harry and Megan wrote in a letter on their Archewell non-profit foundation website.
“We cannot think of a more resonant way to honor our son’s birthday. If we all show up with compassion for those we both know and don’t know, we can have a profound impact. Even a small contribution can have a ripple effect.”
To celebrate the young royal’s second birthday, we're looking back at some of Archie's cutest moments.
Archie was born on May 6, 2019, and in just two years, this baby has already met some pretty remarkable milestones. For starters, he's a world-traveler (he's already spent time in Africa, Canada, and the United States, just to name a few), a podcaster (he spoke his first public words on his parent's podcast in December), and is just downright adorable (check out their Christmas card if you don't believe us!). The royal tot is growing fast—and is looking more like his father every day!
From his royal debut to intimate moments with Mom and Dad, we gathered every photo from Archie's first two years of life. Warning: Cuteness overload ahead.
His Royal Debut
Cradled in his father's arms, baby Archie made his world debut two days after his birth. Unlike his royal cousins, (Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis), Archie made his first appearance at Windsor Castle because Meghan and Harry opted to give birth at Portland Hospital instead of the royally-favored Lindo Wing.
The newborn was quite well-behaved during his first public appearance, sleeping peacefully during the entire photocall.
Meeting the Queen
As a royal baby, one of your first orders of business is to meet the Queen! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex introduced their young son to Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, shortly after Archie's birth. Queen Elizabeth looked overjoyed meeting her eighth great-grandchild!
Meghan celebrated her first Mother's Day as a mom just six days after Archie was born. To make the exciting occasion, Meghan shared a sweet shot of her holding her newborn's tiny toes because honestly, what is cuter than baby feet?!
A Precious Father-Son Moment
Our hearts are melting just looking at this moment between Archie and Prince Harry. The royal parents shared the candid shot to celebrate Prince Harry's first Father's Day. His eyes, his hands, his head—this photo captures Archie is all his adorable newborn glory.
Christening with Mom and Dad
Like several royal babies before him, Archie suited up in a replica of the Royal Christening Robe for his christening on July 6, 2019. Meghan and Harry chose to keep the ceremony private but they did release this intimate image following the occasion. Taken just two months after his birth, this photo proves Archie is really growing fast!
Posing with the Royal Family
Newly-christened Archie also posed with his extended family at Windsor Castle. The christening occurred in front of 25 family friends and the family portrait featured Prince Charles and wife Camila, Duchess of Cornwall; Prince William and Kate Middleton; Princess Diana’s sisters Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes; and Markle's mother Doria Ragland, as well as Meghan, Prince Harry, and baby Archie.
Three Generations of Windsors
The Duke and Duchess celebrated Prince Charles's 71st birthday in November 2019 with a photo from Archie's christening. We can't get enough of the way Prince Charles and Prince Harry are admiring Archie in this moment!
Archie spent a July afternoon hanging out with his mom, his aunt, Kate Middleton, and cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, at a charity polo match that Prince Harry and Prince William were participating in. While Archie spent majority of the afternoon in Meghan's arms we can't wait until he is old enough to run around with his big cousins!
Cheering on Dad
Did Archie watch any of his father's charity polo match? Probably not. But did he look lovable all curled up in Meghan's arms? Definitely!
His First Royal Tour
Archie's official royal duties began at just four-months-old when he accompanied his parents on their royal tour of South Africa.
Hanging Out with Desmond Tutu
Who can say that they met Desmond Tutu at four-months-old? Archie can! Baby Archie met the Archbishop in September 2019 during his first royal tour to South Africa.
Smiling for the Camera
The photos of Archie in Africa proved that the baby is the spitting image of his father, Prince Harry. Between the red hair and his smile, the youngster is looking more like his royal dad every day!
A Cute Christmas Card
Archie was front-and-center on the Sussex's first Christmas card as a family-of-three.
Celebrating the New Year
The royal baby definitely stole the show in the family's year-end Instagram video. He spent his first New Year's Eve with his parents in Canada and this loving father-son shot proves the family spent a lot of time lakeside this past winter. But the real question is, where can we get Archie's adorable winter hat?
To commemorate Archie's first birthday on May 6, 2020, Meghan and Harry shared a video of them reading Duck! Rabbit! to their young son. The three-minute-long video was full of baby giggles, kisses and even duck sounds (Prince Harry gave his best duck impersonation from behind the camera!).
A Sibling on the Way
A Valentine's Day surprise came in the form of an announcement from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex: Meghan Markle is pregnant with baby number two! "We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child," Meghan and Harry shared in a statement. The statement was accompanied by a gorgeous black and white photo of the couple with Meghan cradling her stomach, taken by photographer Misan Harriman.
A Growing Family
On March 8, Harry and Meghan shared the cutest photo of their growing family. The black-and-white photo (taken in front of the same backdrop as their pregnancy announcement) shows a smiley Meghan showing off her growing baby bump in a flowing, off-the-shoulder maxi dress with Archie nestled against her chest and Harry behind her with his arms around them both. We can't wait to see them as a soon-to-be family of four!
