When Lady Amelia Spencer, Princess Diana’s niece, married Greg Mallett in Cape Town, South Africa, on March 21, 2023, royal wedding fans couldn’t wait to take in every detail from their nuptials. One of the most attention-grabbing elements? The bride’s ensemble. Amelia walked down the aisle in a custom Atelier Versace wedding dress, which included a sweet tribute to Princess Di, according to Hello. Not only was Diana a close friend of Gianni Versace’s, but the royal also wore his designs quite often. “I think she would be very proud to see me on my wedding day,” Amelia tells the outlet. “I know the Versace family also absolutely loved Diana, so there’s a very special connection that we have.”
The bride’s elegant dress featured silk rebrodé lace, an eight-foot train, Swarovski crystals, a hand-embroidered neckline, structured shoulders, and intricate floral detailing, the outlet reports. The entire getup took two and a half months to create. “I’m the luckiest girl in the world,” Amelia gushes. “It’s honestly the most beautiful dress I’ve ever seen. It’s been the happiest experience working with Versace. Every single member of their team were like angels.” She paired her outfit with a silk tulle veil that was a little over 16 feet and Jimmy Choo shoes.
The bride’s maid of honor—her twin sister, Lady Eliza Spencer—also donned a Versace gown: a custom pale pink silk slip dress. Lady Kitty Spencer, Amelia’s older sister, sported a Dolce & Gabbana design as a bridesmaid. Other members from the model’s family were also present, including her mother, Victoria Lockwood, and her brother, Samuel Aitken. Samuel even walked the bride down the aisle. “Samuel is so special to Greg and I, so it just made sense,” Amelia explains.
The couple’s ceremony took place on a mountaintop at Quoin Rock Manor House, according to Hello. The duo selected Cape Town, South Africa, as their destination due to its significance to their love story. “It means so much to get married here,” Amelia says. “Growing up here together for the last 14 years, all of mine and Greg’s happiest times as a couple are here. It’s even more special now.” During the ceremony, the two of them exchanged heartfelt promises. “In my vows, I said to Greg, ‘In my heart, you’ve always been my husband and soulmate,’” Amelia recalls. “Were’s so lucky we’re now married, but nothing’s going to be different going forward.”
After they became husband and wife, the newlyweds celebrated in an outdoor party with lots of music, dancing, cuisine by Chef Ollie Swart and his Annalise Catering team, and cake by Sweet Lionheart Bar. The bride also changed into a second look, a Pronovias design. “It was genuinely the best day of our lives,” Amelia expresses. “It was better than I ever imagined.” Greg agrees that marrying Amelia was the best decision. "My love for Amelia has been reborn," he says. "Every day I fall more in love with this beautiful human by my side."
