So you just got engaged and now you have this beautiful rock on your finger…but it’s a little too big. Whether your partner bought your ring in secret or you picked it out together, size miscalculations happen more than you think (I’ve definitely picked the wrong size ring even when using the size guide online). Still, it can be frustrating to not be able to wear your engagement ring, especially when all you want to do is show it off.
Amazon to the rescue! If you’ve recently been on #bridetok, you’ve probably seen a ton of videos about ring adjusters on Amazon. For less than $10, you can easily fix a too big ring, without having to go to the jeweler to get it resized.
“When you first get engaged, it's a bummer to then have to give the ring back right away to the jeweler and wait weeks for it to get resized,” says Ashley Bostwick, founder and designer of Wander and Lust Jewelry. “With these ring adjusters, you can now order one off Amazon, and get it the next day, so at least you can proudly wear your new ring and not risk it falling off your finger and getting damaged or worse getting lost.”

After seeing several of these posts on TikTok, I still had a lot of questions. How do the adjusters work? Can you wear them indefinitely? And most importantly, are they safe? After investing in an engagement ring, the last thing you want to do is scuff it with a quick fix. So I spoke to Bostwick and ordered a set myself to test the product. Read on for my honest review of one of the highest-rated ring adjusters on Amazon, the Feramox Ring Size Adjuster Set.
The Product
The set comes with eight ring adjusters all in various sizes and widths to fit different rings. The adjuster itself is a crescent-shaped piece of silicone that snaps into the back of the ring, creating a barrier between the band and your finger, thus making it smaller. To ensure the adjuster doesn’t scratch your ring, Bostwick only recommends those made from silicone. An adjuster made from hard plastic can potentially scratch the metal. Thankfully, this set is made from sturdy yet flexible silicone, so it’s safe to use.

Ease of Use
As someone who used to have a strong fashion ring phase, I have a good collection of rings with both thick and thin bands. Trying to find the right adjuster for each ring was a bit tricky and putting them on the band wasn’t super easy either. You definitely have to play around with it, and I can imagine it can be even more challenging when working with a ring topped with a large stone. Take your time and once it’s on, it will stay in place.

The Result
Once I managed to slip it on, the adjuster definitely made my ring more snug. I tried it on my favorite ring, which has been passed down through my family and features a very thin band in the back. Because it’s so dainty and dated, I’ve never considered getting it resized. Instead, I always would wear it on my middle finger, but with the adjuster, I can now wear it on my ring finger.
Another big selling point of these adjusters is that they are supposed to be invisible. With the thin silver band, the adjuster was barely noticeable, especially to the unsuspecting eye. Yet when I tried it with a gold, chunky ring, the clear adjuster was a tad more noticeable, specifically if I flipped my hand over and you could see the back of the ring. Still the rare chance that someone notices the adjuster when you flip your hand over certainly doesn’t outweigh the benefits of keeping your precious engagement ring securely on your finger. In terms of comfort, the adjuster is lightweight and smooth. After a few minutes of wearing it, I forgot I had it on.

Final Verdict
TikTok is right. These cheap ring adjusters are a genius hack for resizing your engagement ring when you just can’t wait to show it to the world. Eventually, you’ll want to get your ring properly resized, but it's a quick and cheap solution for the short term.
“I would only recommend a silicone ring adjuster for long-term use if your ring cannot be resized by a jeweler, whether it be made with a material that can't be resized such as gold-plating or gold vermeil, or if the ring design is too complex,” says Bostwick.
These adjusters are also great if you have some loose fashion rings that aren’t worth resizing but you still want to wear them. Maybe one day we’ll learn how to find our correct ring size on the first go, but until then, Amazon has got our back.
