BIG BAND

A large jazz group typically composed of trumpets, saxophones, trombones, a rhythm section (piano, drums, double bass) and occasionally a vocalist or a guitar. A big band is a great way to get people dancing, but it's also fun to watch.

EMCEE OR MC

Also known as the master of ceremonies, the emcee acts as the host of the reception. He or she will introduce the wedding party and toast-givers, direct guests' attention to events like the cake-cutting, and generally keeps the various elements of the entertainment running smoothly. While some emcees can be very chatty with guests, the trend these days is for more subtle participation.

ORCHESTRA

An orchestra is a musical group that includes string instruments like violins, violas and cellos as well as woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.

PRELUDE

This is the music that is played before your ceremony begins, as guests arrive and take their seats. The music typically provides a quiet background and sets the mood for what's to come.

PROCESSIONAL

This refers to the music played as the wedding party and bride walk down the aisle for the exchange of vows. Many couples choose one song for the wedding party and another for the bride's procession.

RECESSIONAL

This is the music for the walk back up the aisle after the ceremony is over. The bride and groom are usually at the front of the recession, and they typically choose an upbeat song to reflect the joyful spirit of the moment.
