Question:
We're having a potluck reception, but I'm worried that I'll have 12 broccoli quiches and no appetizers. How do I organize this? I also want everything to look pulled together and elegant.
Answer:

Assign each guest a specific type of food, such as a green vegetable, chicken dish or fruit pie, and ask her to make enough for at least 10 servings. Depending on how many guests you're having, you'll need to have several guests make the same type of food. Ask that all dishes come fully prepared, but plan on reheating them. To dress up the party, rent serving dishes and utensils, says Hope Smith, of Memories, an event and wedding-planning company in Olympia, Washington. "Set a time for all dishes to be delivered," she adds, "and designate a few reliable friends or family members to set it all up and replenish things as needed."
