What to include in the contract

Payment schedule

Details about exactly how much is due and when should be clearly listed. It's normal for a deposit of 20-50 percent to hold the date, with the rest due on the wedding day.

Where and when
Clearly specify the time, location and hours of entertainment. Be sure to check these facts because a mistake can mean a major mix-up.

Overtime fees
It's very common for a couple to sign up for the typical four hours of entertainment, only to decide they don't want the party to end when the time is up. If overtime is an option, be certain that the fee is agreed upon in the contract.

Break time
Include details on the time and length of breaks for a band—and exactly how they will be handled. (Most bands will play a set of about one hour, or 10 to 12 songs, before they break.) If the DJ prefers to break, be sure that is described in the contract.

Head count
For a band, be absolutely sure that the number of band members and the instruments played is listed.

Cancellation policies
No, it probably won't happen, but if you need to cancel, you will be glad to have the agreement about fees due in writing.
