How to save money

Choose the right date

On a Saturday night in September, a wedding band or DJ will be booked. If you can be flexible, marry in an off-month like February or March, or on a weeknight like Thursday, when the band will likely not be working—this will increase your bargaining power.

Try new(ish) talent
In many cases, the best-known DJs and bands with longstanding reputations will cost you the most. Explore the option of hiring a talented entertainer with less experience and you may save some money while still getting a great party. Just be sure that the band or DJ has at least a few weddings on their resume.

Keep it short
You may be able to hire the band or DJ for just a couple of hours. For example, you could play your own recorded music through the cocktail hour until after dinner and then launch into a couple of hours of dance tunes.
