Aperitif

An alcoholic drink consumed before lunch or dinner to whet the appetite.

Consumption bar

Bartenders keep a running tab, and you pay the final bill at the end of the evening based on how much your guests drank.

Corkage fee

Fee per bottle charged to open and serve liquor that you bring to your reception site.

Digestif

An alcoholic drink, like cognac, consumed after a meal, usually to aid in digestion.

Mixed drinks

Cocktails made of liquor like vodka and some type of mixer like cranberry juice.

Open bar

You pay a flat fee for your guests to drink for an allotted period of time.

Pousse-café

A drink where one layer of liqueur is floated on top of another.

Premium-brand liquor

The most expensive liquors.

Spumante

An Italian word for sparkling wine.
