Baker Naomi Henderson shares a simple tutorial on decorating with fondant to create cute cupcakes.

For the Cupcakes (Makes 12)

- ¾ cup self-rising flour
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 1½ cups milk
- 1 cup superfine sugar
- Seeds scraped from 2 split vanilla beans or ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 eggs

For the Decorations

- 12 vanilla cupcakes (ingredients above)
- 18 ounces ready-to-roll white fondant icing (available at your local craft store)
- Red gel food dye (using gel dye to color the fondant is much faster than using liquid dye; gel dye is available at your local craft store)
- Blue gel food dye
- Plastic mat
- Small nonstick rolling pin
- Confectioner's sugar (for dusting)
- 1 circle-shaped cookie cutter approximately the same size as your cupcake tops
- 2 heart-shaped cookie cutters (one slightly smaller than your cupcake tops, the other slightly smaller than that)
- Water
- Small paintbrush
