Avid travelers Sibyl Kane and Nathan Schmidt fell in love with Normandy—and each other—on a trip to France. So they chose to host an intimate wedding celebration at Château de Boucéel in Mont Saint Michel, where they first realized they were meant to be together. “When you go someplace beautiful, you want to share that, but rarely do you get to bring everyone along,” Nathan says. “Your wedding is the one time you can drag people with you.” The 30 guests arrived a few days early to tour the ancient abbey and village before the main event last May. After the bride and groom exchanged vows in the château’s foyer (they’d already been legally wed in the United States), they joined their family and friends for a four-hour feast on local delicacies, including “salty lamb” and oysters, topped off by a French croquembouche (pyramid of profiteroles) as their wed-ding cake. “It was like the most elegant dinner party you’d ever been to,” Sibyl says. “That was more than worth the trip.”
