Tim and Shirley grew up in the same neighborhood and attended rival high schools. They later both went to the University of Michigan and lived in the same building—down the hall from each other—for two years. Somehow they never managed to meet until medical school, when they were assigned to the same surgery rotation.

Two Detroit-area natives begin their wedding day with a tour of the city

Tim and Shirley's romance played out at various spots throughout greater Detroit. It's where they had their first date (at the Detroit Jazz Festival) and where Tim proposed (on a park bench in Birmingham). They therefore found it fitting to begin their big day by posing for photos in their beloved hometown. Before the ceremony began they jumped into their limo with their photographer and wedding party and spent a few hours snapping pictures at their favorite city spots.
"The only downside was that the bottom of my gown got dirty from stepping into the Belle Island fountain and from getting in and out of the limo … I'm not the most graceful," says Shirley. "It was totally worth it, though. We had a blast taking those fun shots around town."
