The couple was married at the bride's church, the First Presbyterian Church in Houston. The reverend, a good friend of the bride’s late grandmother, wove the story of the couple’s chance meetings into the ceremony. He also mentioned how the groom proposed: at the park where they first met, complete with candles and chilled champagne.
