It’s miles of smiles as the troops admire family photos lining a bridge leading to the feast.
Vickie and Dan in Napa Valley, CA
The memory of one bride's sibling followed her down the aisle
Both love the California outdoors and competitive sports, so when the social gal met the shy guy, it wasn't long before a serious romance started between Vickie Harris and Dan Brosnan. That relationship kept them strong during a difficult year in which Vickie's older brother, Bret, passed away. He'd been with her through many milestones, including her second marathon, in which he ran alongside her for the final miles. So when planning their September wedding, Vickie and Dan decided to include a tribute to her brother: In lieu of favors, they donated money to the Dr. Seuss Race for Literacy, an annual San Diego event that Bret, a dedicated teacher and avid runner, had long supported.
As the sun descended on an autumn afternoon, family and friends gathered for the ceremony at the Beaulieu Gardens in the Napa Valley. Moving through the estate, guests sipped the Harris family cocktail, Kir Royale, and then crossed a white lattice bridge lined with photos of the bride's and groom's families. "It was like walking down memory lane," says Vickie. Once past the montage, guests enjoyed a seafood feast and a berry-studded cake (made by a pastry chef pal) before joining Vickie and Dan on the dance floor. On this sentimental and starry night, the couple pulled off their ideal wedding, full of dear memories from the past and bright plans for the future.
