Though "Asian fusion" typically describes cuisine, the term also applies perfectly to the union of New York native Susan Chan, a Chinese-American of Buddhist heritage, and Bombay-born Keval Desai, who was raised Hindu. Guests knew they were in for a cross-cultural treat from the moment they opened the red invitations, bought in Delhi, bearing the image of Ganesh, the Hindu god of good luck and good beginnings.
The Hindu ceremony, held one autumn evening at a 19th-century California ranch, also included Chinese rituals—with guests inscribing their names on a signing cloth and the Chinese double-happiness symbol stamped on every conceivable surface.
