Jennifer and David in Santa Ana Pueblo, NM

Under the Santa Ana Pueblo sky

A portrait of Jennifer's Reem Acra dress for posterity. "My dress was right for the setting because it looks very Spanish and was fabulous with black cowboy boots. I'm just five-foot two, and although it was a big dress, it was perfect for me."

When Jennifer Ramo moved to New Orleans from New York City, she never dreamed that two days after her arrival she'd meet her future husband. "He was visiting from New York to attend the Jazz Fest," she says, "and I was there too—we both love music. I couldn't believe I had to relocate to meet my nice Jewish boy!" A year-and-a-half later, the couple became engaged. Jennifer's mom found out pretty quickly, because the two had previously devised a secret code to relay the news: "I was to call and say, "Order the mariachis!" Jennifer says with a laugh. "So right after we got engaged, I did just that."
