A Rustic, Vintage Wedding in Sonoma
An old-fashioned couple celebrated their romance with a vintage-themed, down-home celebration in a rustic California grove
They met at a friend's "barn burner"—a rocking party thrown at a cabin in the Napa Valley, where they danced to bluegrass, talked by the fire, and slept under the stars. Sarah Hall thought she'd never see Kimo Bertram again, because they lived in different cities. But two days later, he sent her a bouquet with a note asking when they could meet next. Their July 10 wedding, three years later, was a celebration that re-created the casual, down-home vibe of that magical first encounter. Sarah, 28, and Kimo, 34, found a redwood grove in Sonoma County, California, and welcomed the help of family and friends to turn the simple clearing into a romantic setting for a forest feast. "I loved the idea of dressing up the woods to celebrate our day," says Sarah.
Sarah and Kimo set the stage for their woodsy wedding with a vintage car borrowed from a friend. "It was the perfect centerpiece to welcome guests and take photos in," says the bride. "And the kids loved it, too."
