Seeing the Light

Hiring a lighting designer may not rank as highly on your list of priorities as say, hiring a florist or baker—but it should. "Lighting is one of the most dramatic ways to enhance a space," say Kimberly and David Reynolds of The Lighting Guy, in Oxford, 866-377-2618, thelightingguy.net. By dimming the existing lighting and diffusing lavender, pink and yellow light, the Reynolds team added warmth and energy to this reception's room. The lighting also allowed the richly colored linens and tropical centerpieces to blend in with the existing decor. The use of uplights made the ceiling appear higher. "At the end of the night—even after all of the dishes have been used and the napkins are crumbled—the lighting will still be causing the same reactions guests felt when they first walked into the room," says Kimberly.
