Minimalists, take note. Spring 2014 is the season for a "less is more" philosophy.
While lace wedding dresses remain a perennial favorite, and floral appliqués and crystal embellishments make for romantic bridal runways season after season, Spring 2014 brought forth a new crop of modern, sometimes daring (capes, pants, and one very special sheer crop top), wedding dress designs that are suited for the minimalist brides at heart.
Tapping into a "less is more" philosophy, designers like Vera Wang, Amsale, Monique Lhuillier, and Angel Sanchez swapped lace, tulle, and taffeta, for silk, satin and mikado. Any embellishments took the form of sheer, geometric panels, thinly-beaded necklines, architectural pleats and visible darts that flaunted fine tailoring. That doesn't mean all romance was lost; designers offset these hard-edged details with add-ons like tiny bow belts and slight floral additions to otherwise starkly sheer panels.
For brides who favor this sleek and modern trend, the freedom to go for ultra-glamorous, statement-making accessories is wide open. "Brides who want to play up the minimalist vibe can opt for a graphic accessory or a bold headpiece," says Brides Fashion Director Rachel Leonard. A pop of color on your clutch, a bold lip hue, and a dramatically voluminous hairstyle should do the trick. These understated designs let your inner beauty shine on your big day—and also give you the opportunity to flaunt your fashion sense.
